Ben Lomond Junior Races and School Races Competition Postponed until 24 August 2019

By | BLC, Races, snow, Winter | No Comments

Please be advised that the race committee led by Will Gordon as Race Director have made the decision to postpone the planned Ben Lomond Junior Races and School Races competition from this Saturday 17 August to the following Saturday 24 August 2019.
The decision has been made on a joint consensus basis with information gathered across the weekend on current conditions and working with schools supporting attendance at the event. The limited snow base and capacity to set a course upcoming weather and the hope of better conditions and snowfalls in the coming 10 days has formed the core basis for the decision.

Thank you for your understanding and patience at this time. Any questions or queries can be directed to Adrian Beswick, Vice President to benlomondcommittee@gmail.com or phone 0438 253 111

Forecast makes for a great trip to the snow, more snow in sight!

By | BLC, snow | No Comments

With the next 4 days forecast to be light winds and frosty starts to the day at Ben Lomond it makes for a perfect opportunity to bring your family up for a snow adventure during the school holidays.

Try skiing or snowboarding for the first time, catch a lift and enjoy gravity do its thing as it pushes you down the slope! Not your cup of tea? There is always that ever elusive snowman to build or a toboggan

Further snow falls are expected the beginning of next week to top up the cover and hopefully allow life company Alpine Enterprises to open up some more of the mountain for downhill skiing and boarding.

Stay tuned in for more updates across our social media networks inlcuding Facebook, Instagram and Twitter!

Ben Lomond Committee – State Goverment Funding Pledge

By | BLC | No Comments

I’m pleased to let Ben Lomond Committee members and the broader Ben Lomond community know that we have today received from Will Hodgman written confirmation that ‘a re-elected Liberal Government will provide support of $60,000 to the Ben Lomond Committee to assist with improving the water supply for the Ben Lomond Ski Fields’.

This is tremendous news and recognition of the need and benefits of an increased water supply for the Ben Lomond village and ski slopes. This election commitment is the result of the BLC Submission to Government in October 2017 – with priorities discussed and determined at BLC meetings in 2017. Our submission was based upon recommendations arising from the 2015 Ben Lomond Feasibility Study (part funded by the BLC).

Subject to the election outcome, the existing village dam will be refurbished (dealing with the silt issue) and hydrological studies undertaken to permit expanded snow making. There is also scope to upgrade some of the pipe infrastructure.

The BLC will continue to advocate for more spending on the Ben Lomond Ski Field and we acknowledge the increased awareness across government of Ben Lomond’s potential(Parks & Wildlife Service, State Growth, Tourism Northern Tasmania, Northern Midlands Council).

Snows still here people!

By | BLC, snow | No Comments

If your at a loose end for the beginning of the school holidays don’t forget that there is still plenty of snow up here for everyone to have some fun in. With snow forecast Friday to 1100m and Saturday to 500m ASL this should top off what is a great cover across the mountain.

Perfect for all the kids so pack your toboggans and come have some fun. BYO food, drink and transport.

As there is limited resident traffic on the mountain and its out of the snow season chains aren’t officially required. Despite this please note that should conditions suggest that your vehicle isn’t safe to proceed above the snow line… DONT. Looking for somewhere to hire chains? Check out Auto Barn or ARB in Launceston.

For more information on current conditions see the webcam page.

Blue bird Sunday, a perfect way to close off the ski season.
