Light snow overnight, 2WD vehicles to fit chains

By | BLC, Road Update, snow, Winter | No Comments

Overnight the crust on the snowcam has grown indicating that there has been some more snowfall on the ski slopes so it has snowed. Ben Lomond Snow Sports have reported that conditions are very windy outside, not unbearable but extremely cold. We will hopefully have a slope and lift conditions update soon.

ROAD CONDITIONS –Ben Lomond road has snow on the road from the camp ground. This morning
Parks and Wildlife have advised 2WD vehicles will have to fit chains, Jacobs ladder has between 2-5 cm of soft fresh snow but not enough to call the grader to clear the road. If you are driving a car you not only need to have chains, you need to know how to fit them and how to drive your car whist they are on. For more information on chains visit the snowsafe website

Transport Gear Hire and Cafe (Ben Lomond Snow Sports) are open 7 days from 9am to 4:30pm have all your needs covered right at the doorstep to the snow.  Food, lessons shuttle bus ($15 return or $50 for a family of 4) from PWS Registration Area), equipment hire and toboggans, all ready. Looking good for the last days of school holidays.

The shuttle runs throughout the day collecting snow goers from the bottom car park at the Parks and Wildlife Service entry station and deliver you to the car park at the base of the boardwalk. If you are catching the bus you do not need to hire chains! Call 03 6390 6185 (TELSTRA SIGNAL) for a pickup or to arrange a booking.

For more information about Ben Lomond Snow Sports hire options visit the hire page on our website.

Park Entry 2014 Update

Ben Lomond winter access

The Parks and Wildlife Service has streamlined the purchase of parks passes as part of preparations for the annual influx of winter sport enthusiasts at Ben Lomond National Park.

Visitors are advised that the entry booth is no longer operating. Day (24 hour) passes are available from; the Ben Lomond Creek Inn, from self-registration boxes at the entry station prior to the Carr Villa Road turnoff, at the information booth adjacent to the Legg Tor Public Shelter, and from the PWS Online Shop here.

Annual parks passes can only be purchased prior to arrival from Service Tasmania shops and PWS visitor centres.

Motorists travelling to Ben Lomond are reminded that it is compulsory to carry chains from June to September. Conditions on the mountain change very quickly and motorists arriving in fine weather can face a dangerous descent on Jacobs Ladder.

It’s important that visitors drive to conditions, carry chains and fit the chains where directed by signage or PWS staff. The requirement for chains includes both two-wheel and four-wheel drive vehicles.

Snow conditions are available through the Ben Lomond Snow Sports Facebook page, or atwww.ski.com.au. The Ben Lomond ‘snow cam’ is operated by www.ski.com.au. Radio and TV ski conditions reports for Ben Lomond will begin once there is enough snow for the lifts to operate.

More information about visiting Ben Lomond during winter is available here.

Hi there followers, You will all be pleased to know that this is the beginning of a new era for Ben Lomond. Online and active, the Ben Lomond committee is forging ahead to give mountain users more information, with greater clarity in real time.

There is no doubt that this change will ensure that users of Ben Lomond will keep up to date with Parks and Wildlife updates, updates from businesses and also promotions from member lodges on the mountain who are on the look out to attract new members (I know they all are).

The Committee looks forward to providing greater transparency about what is happening on mountain, whether it be snow falling, the pub calling or the lifts turning, you will hear about it here!

You think that it might only be a winter thing? Think again, Ben Lomond is an all year around resort and we will keep you updated year round. You’re a Bushwalker? Hippy Sticker? Downhill skier? or even Family Fun Maker? We will have the answers for you.

The BLC looks forward to more actively serving the community through benlomond.org.au

See you all soon.
