Gerrit Stam Chinese Downhill – Launch

Saturday brings the racing calendar to a peak in that the open Chinese Downhill will be fought out by young and old. Starting from the top of Bills/Giblin at close of lifts, competitors will race with no rules from here to the entrance to Sponsor for the day, Trophies for first male and first female. Morning update – Bring your sunnies!

Its a chilly minus -4.2 degrees this morning, sunny with light winds.

There is a great cover on all slopes. With little to no exposed hazards and a hard packed cover with a fresh layer on top.
Bass Village Summit and Fannies, Bills this afternoon. Pick of the day will be fresh tracks on the areas not used yesterday.

Road open with some ice and snow patches. 2wd to fit chains where directed.

All in all its going to be one of those days not to miss. See you soon.

Lift and Road update

Conditions have become extreme on the mountain this morning. ALL LIFTS ON HOLD until winds drop. This includes Bass, Village, Summit, Fannies and Bills on stand by with staff ready to go as soon as winds abate.
Road icy with some significant snow drifts forming across the plateau and ladder. Please observe signage regarding the fitting of chains to your vehicle.

Morning update – A taste of winter is best served cold

Another stunner this morning. Its -1.6 at mo, clear and sunny, light winds. Today lofts operating will be Bass, Village, Summit and Fannies, Bills on stand by for afternoon.

An important reminder that the beginner learning area and tobogganing slopes are in top condition following grooming. So if your thinking about a lesson or just some family fun, its highly recommended.

The road is open and clear to the village.

More fresh snow overnight, Sunday sessions in the snow anyone?

Currently just over -6 degrees so a fresh start to the morning. The cover will be hard packed with a fresh layer of 3-5 cm of snow across the mountain this morning. There are currently moderate and gusty southerly winds which are expected to ease through the day and high light cloud making for good visibility. 5 Lifts this morning with Bass, Village, Summit, Fannies and Bills. Giblin is on Standby pending the southerly winds easing heading towards lunchtime.

ROAD CONDITIONS – Ice conditions from the ladder. 2WD vehicles to fit chains. Currently -17 wind chill on the top of the ladder with -12 wind chill at the car park. ALL vehicles proceeding past the park registration area must carry chains and fit them where directed. For more information on chains visit the snowsafe website.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: have you competed in the Chinese Downhill before? Next Saturday from the Giblin peak at the close of lifts the Chinese Downhill will be run. More information as its available this week.

Morning report – more snow on the way

Currently +1.0 degrees, moderate but gusty West North Westerly winds with low cloud and damp. Bass Summit Village and Fannies this morning, plus Bills for the afternoon. The cover remains very good to excellent across all slopes. Winds and snow showers expected to increase this afternoon.

ROAD CONDITIONS – Ice patches. ALL vehicles proceeding past the park registration area must carry chains and fit them where directed. Drive to the conditions and keep a sensible distance between cars. Please follow the directions of the Parks Rangers. If you are driving a car you not only need to have chains, you need to know how to fit them and how to drive your car whist they are on. For more information on chains visit the snowsafe website.
